INTEGRATED SET OF EQUIPMENT FOR WHEY PURIFICATION, CONDENSATION AND CRYSTALLISATION IS INSTALLED AND FULLY OPERATIONAL AT STARKON PLANT : News archive
13 November 2007
As part of the continuing enhancement of the Group's manufacturing capability, an integrated set of equipment for whey purification, condensation and crystallisation has been purchased and installed and is now fully operational at the Group's Starkon Plant. Liquid whey, a main by-product of the hard-cheese making process, can now be processed at the Starkon site to yield dry whey. This will replace substantially all the dry whey previously purchased from a third party for use in the production of processed cheese at the Group's Molochnik Plant. Dry whey is also a viable commercial product in its own right, with strong on-going demand both domestically in Ukraine and internationally. In addition, the environmental implications of the installation are beneficial as there is no residual disposal requirement due to the full processing of the by-product. The equipment cost £240,000 to acquire and install and allows the production of up to 130 tonnes of dry whey per month when at maximum capacity. It is anticipated that the commercial impact of the equipment will be to add approximately £15,000 per month to the Group's operating profit. |
